“I’m Sorry, You Have Dialed a Wrong Number…”

By Charles Bishop

Several days ago, a friend forwarded an e-mail to me that relayed a story about a young woman who was being pulled over by an unmarked car exhibiting a red light. In this account, she had been warned by her watchful parents not to be duped into being isolated by some supposed officer of the law. She dutifully called *112 and supposedly told the highway patrol of her plight. Sure enough, in the unmarked car was a rapist and criminal of all sorts. Soon, the police surrounded both cars, and the damsel in distress was rescued. It was all because she remembered to call *112.

The article went on to encourage me, the reader, to forward this letter to all in my address book so they, too, would be informed about this important number. I was assured that all telephone towers recognized this number, and I would be immediately in touch with the highway patrol in any state where I was driving. Being the skeptic, I dialed this number—nothing. I called my mobile phone provider—they knew nothing about it.

Truth is precious. To have accurate information could be and is life saving. Truth is the most powerful ally a person can have. To the person who claims “There is no such thing as truth!”: in case of emergency, do you want the real number or one that is false?  I bet he or she would choose 911 every time. You see—truth matters.

Sonshine

By Gordon Rogers

As most of you are aware, Chris Cronin and his family, neighbors across the street from the church, suffered a real tragedy when their home burned on August 26th.  They lost all their possessions.  He and friends were with us in worship on Sunday morning.  Before our worship service, we made the decision to have a special collection for them.  Even though very few people knew we were going to ask the church to assist, we collected a little more than $800 for them.  Chris told me, “Words cannot express how much your assistance helps and how much we appreciate you.”

I am so proud of this church.  You are so loving, helpful, and effectively demonstrative of Jesus’s love.  I am thrilled to be the pulpit minister at this church.  You are very special people.  I love you.

SONSHINE PEOPLE:  Our Children’s Worship participants collect money each week to help those who are in need.  Over the past 3 years, our children have given around $3,500 to people who need a helping hand.  What a blessing it was last Sunday when they came down the aisle and gave their money to help.  It was touching and the light of the Son shone through them.  This week, they are our featured SONSHINE people.  What blessings they are!
