What is Your Worldview?

By Charles Bishop

The term worldview may sound abstract or even philosophical, but it is a topic of prime and even practical importance. Our worldview is how we view reality. When our worldview is distorted, misinformed, or perverted, then we are in trouble. Three basic questions must be addressed by any worldview we hold: “What is my origin?”; “What is my purpose?”; and “What is my destiny?” These questions can be asked other ways or expanded, but what sustains our worldview can be expressed by these three.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that something is terribly wrong in our world. Evil is everywhere. Those who hold the naturalistic worldview posit that there really isn’t anything that can be labeled evil or good. After all, we are simply products of chance, time and matter. There’s no higher power to declare what is evil or good. We saw what happened when powerful leaders believed this. The ovens of Auschwitz, the Gulags of the Soviet Union, and the killing fields in Indo-China left their stark testimony.

The Christian worldview sees good and evil through the lens of Scripture. We believe that our view of reality is according to truth. In other words, the day is coming when the world will be judged in righteousness by the One who gives us the assurance that Jesus was raised from the dead. What is your worldview?
